A Beginner's Guide to Online Recruitment
Using the web to recruit has become an indespensable part for recruiter and job seeker alike in a very short space of time.
For most people working in the creative industries (as to it seems with almost everyone) the internet has become an indespensible and everyday tool. So if you are looking to recruit it seems natural to "hit" the channel that is used by your target market.
The benefits of using the internet to recruit for the employer, employee and recruiter are well documented. Couple this with the increase over recent years in the uptake of broadband throughout the country and now the internet itself is even more accessible.
Web recruitment the advantages and disadvantages
Recruiting on the internet has given recruitment agencies, companies and candidates alike a whole new way to secure a new recruit or find themselves a new job.
Advantages of online recruitment:
- Cost: The web is simply cheaper
- Reach: A magazine might get a few thousand views a month - websites get millions
- Usage: Almost all of us use the internet daily – a lot of us exclusively
- Flexibility: From posting, handling candidates and tracking
- Control: You control what you write, when you place the ad, who you place, when you edit...
- Speed: From start to finish you can have your job up in literally minutes
- Simplicity: No more making up print adverts and wasting time going through posted CVs.
Disadvantages include:
- Effort: Using a job board is not as easy as giving a recruiter a ring and getting them to do the leg work. Once you have placed the job advert and the CV's start rolling through - you'll need to sort them and do the interviewing.
- Copywriting: The quality of your advert can have a profound effect on your response so you'll need to sharpen your pencils and make sure your advert is appealing as well as informative.
- It won't always work: Despite all the jobs boards best efforts every job advert that is put on a job board will not necessarily work. Having said that the cost is so small compared to that of traditional recruitment routes then it is generally worth the try first anyway.
