Purpose of Role

The Designer will deliver high-quality design, artwork and pre-press services. They will be responsible for ensuring high levels of quality and productivity at all times. Along with the Creative Director, they will be responsible for the overall standard of design work produced in the studio, providing support for all members of the team with creative tasks. They will possess excellent customer service skills and be confident in dealing with clients.

Working with all members of the on-and off-site studio and print teams, they will deliver against design, artwork and pre-press briefs, input into and deliver creative solutions, and be versatile in operational activities, meeting all quality, deadline and productivity targets.

The Designer is responsible for ensuring that all time and materials are recorded accurately on the Studio MIS each day for all work handled.

It is anticipated that the Designer will, on occasion, perform general ad hoc duties – as requested by the Creative Director or other members of the Management team.

Experience and Qualifications

• Educated to degree standard (or equivalent) in an aligned vocational subject – e.g. communication design, graphic design. Should have a creative portfolio to demonstrate approach and breadth of work to date
• In-depth knowledge of production cycle and print technology. Fully conversant with print and imaging processes, with very good working knowledge of web, litho and digital printing and their limitations
• Excellent knowledge of Digital Artwork processes, its limitations and needs within the design process
• Comprehensive knowledge of DTP/studio software and hardware
• Knowledge of on-line and interactive design and hosting applications
• Extensive experience of PDF creation and troubleshooting
• Extensive experience of at least one PDF workflow system (Prinergy, Apogee, Brisque, Trueflow), including in-depth trapping and imposition knowledge
• Experience of digital imposition for CTP
• Experience of digital contract proofing
• Conversant with colour theory – experience of colour management and ICC profiling preferred
